John is a Partner in the Personal Injury Team. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1994, and has spent his entire career working for Claimants in personal injury compensation claims. He joined us from a large trade union law firm in February 2014, where he was a Southampton based Partner, specialising in complex asbestos disease and other occupational disease cases. He is a Senior Litigator member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
John has extensive experience in running cases involving pleural thickening, asbestosis, asbestos-related lung cancer and mesothelioma. John uses all his skill and experience to investigate these cases as a matter of urgency and strives to recover compensation for his clients within their lifetime if they have a fatal condition.
John works hard for each and every one of his clients and has a reputation for providing excellent customer care.
Examples of how John has helped clients include:
John acted for a man who was diagnosed with mesothelioma after suffering unexplained shortness of breath when completing the simplest of tasks. Several decades earlier, during the 1960's and 1970's, the man had been negligently exposed to asbestos in a timber yard. His employer at the time had made him unload sheets of asbestos from a flatbed truck without any protection or warnings of the dangers to which he was subjected. John fought hard in this case and recovered a significant sum of compensation for the man before he died.
In another case, John's client sadly died before his personal injury claim was completed, but after his death John carried on with the claim on behalf of his widow and teenage children. The man was only in his 50's when he died of mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos years earlier. The man had worked at his local locomotive plant and had been exposed to asbestos over the years while he worked there, right to the 1980s. One exposure was whilst transporting components from stripped out carriages which had become contaminated with asbestos dust, and another was whilst transporting asbestos sheets which gave off a lot of dust. The man was given no protection, and no warning of the danger he was being exposed to by his employer. John recovered £300,000 compensation for the man's family.
John acted for a man who developed the often deadly disease leptospirosis (also known as Weil's syndrome) when he was exposed to rats’ urine at his place of employment. The Defendants fought the case hard. He succeeded in establishing legal blame at a liability only trial, and recovered a significant six figure award of compensation for his client just before the damages assessment hearing.
Away from the office…
John is enjoying bringing up his young family by the sea. They are all members of the Hurst Castle Sailing Club where they sail their dinghy. John has just taken up golf and enjoys hacking around local courses with friends on Sunday mornings. He particularly loves literature, music and the arts.
